The military intervention (military coup), referred as the “Revolution of the 60” in Turkish political history, took place on 27th of May 1960 and led to important results and constitutional changes in the history of Turkish democracy. The 60's Revolution also had decisive effects in terms of Turkish political life. The powerful Colonel of the revolution, Alparslan TÜRKEŞ, would appear later on the political scene as a fierce political figureand a powerful ideologist after his involvement in civilian life. Observing that the Justice Party was only a bad copy of the Democrat Party and was alsoon the same negligent path as all mass parties, TÜRKEŞ decided that the time had come for the cause (ideal) of the “Turkish nationalism” to be represented by a political party. When Alparslan TÜRKEŞ returned from exile in 1963, he first reorganized the Republican Villagers Nation Party (RVNP) and strengthened its ideological structure with the “9 Lights doctrine”, which he attributed to the “Idealist youth” (“Ülkücü Gençlik” in Turkish); and then he transformed the RVNP to the Nationalist Movement Party (NMP).

Devlet BAHÇELİ, inheriting the flag from the "founding leader" Alparslan TÜRKEŞ, came to the fore as a "protective leader" and he guided both the “Nationalist Movement” and the NMP in preparation for the 21st century. In the historical process untilthe 2019, Devlet BAHÇELİ did not only strengthen the dominant role of the NMP in our political life by making it the representative of national conscience, but he also ensured that the ideal of “Turkish Nationalism” has been imprintedon the social memory and the mind of the state.
