The COVID-19 Pandemic has radically changed our lives.In addition to its social, cultural, and economic reflections on worldsocieties, this disaster reshaped traditional higher education settings byaffecting the dynamics of teaching and learning standards. Many HEIs worldwidesuddenly moved their courses online in a limited period to educate young brainsin different disciplines. This transition looked good on paper sinceeducational activities were on track. However, another vital aspect was theexperiences of faculty members both in the transition and online courseprocesses. Thus, critical questions immediately arose: Were faculty membersready for this rapid transition? Was the transition of courses from in-personto online mode appropriate for all the disciplines offered in academia? Basedon the case of the University of Kansas in the United States, this study shedslight on the different problems experienced by senior faculty members workingin professional academic disciplines during the transition to online courses,the challenges they faced in online course sessions, the strategies theydeveloped to solve these problems, and their thoughts on returning to online inthe future in case of any emergency. This book is derived from Can Sakar’sdoctoral dissertation titled “Coping with a Pandemic: How Faculty Members inSelected Professional Disciplines Addressed Challenges of Putting Their CoursesOnline”, under the supervision of Dr. Susan B. Twombly at the University ofKansas, School of Education and Human Sciences, Department of EducationalLeadership and Policy Studies.
