In this book, there are two important topics about the religious history of Turkish. In the first one popular piety of the Turkish people who live in Anatolia is examined. In the first section titled as “Background of Turkish Popular Piety: Beliefs and Practices from Asia to Anatolia” several beliefs and practices in Turkish folk piety are evaluated.
In the second one Chuvashes’ relation with Islam, which is a little known Turkish group in Turkey, is examined. In the article titled as “Islam among Chuvashes and Its Role in the Change of Chuvash Ethnicity” Chuvashes’ relation with Islam is examined. Today Chuvashes who live in Russian Federation are counted among Christian Turkish communities. However, there are also those have adopted Islam. In the historical process, this part of Chuvashes have knitted up with the Tatars who seemed as powerful representatives of Islam in Russian Federation.
This book in your hands composed of articles puslished in several journals before. I hope that this book will make a small contribution to the understanding of Turkish religious perspective and culture.
